Jesus Christ knows no season.
Brrrrrr it is cold! January and February are famous for being cold and this year promises to be no different. It is to be said that, from April to October, we in Ohio have the best weather anywhere. We pay for it between November and March. Now is a time for blankets and fires if you are blessed to have a fireplace. Hot chocolate with marshmallows, warm drinks of tea, and other things to ward off the cold are all part of life in Northwest Ohio during these months.
Winter is also a time to reflect and renew to get ready for the spring. The ground takes a nap in the winter, restoring itself. The napping ground is preparing itself to receive the seeds of spring planting. Those seeds will produce the harvest come fall and the cycle of life continues. Between Christmas and Ash Wednesday, it is also a time when pastors reflect on the previous year and look forward to Easter Proclamations.
There are all kinds of reports to write; annual reports, year end reports, status reports to the synod and churchwide, to check in and give statistical accounting for the previous year. These reports are time consuming but worth the effort. Reflection is always a good thing.
One of the things we can count on during this time of cold, reflection, and reports is the constancy of Jesus. Jesus Christ knows no season. Jesus is present, and alive and bearing His light on a dark world. Jesus is the reason for all seasons not just Christmas. Jesus embraces us in love, warming our hearts with the Love He feels for the world. The light and warmth of the Savior is for all people. I think of those who are homeless during these days. I think of those who cannot find a consistent hot meal. As we struggle with the cold, let us never weary of doing the work to which Jesus calls. I am so proud to be your pastor.
Peace,
Pastor Bob
