The Season of Lent

Dear Friends in Christ,

In February we see the beginning of Lent. Once again, this year both Calvary and Christ we be participating in a round robin preaching series with area Lutheran churches. We pastors will rotate among the congregations. The difference this year is we will be celebrating Wednesday evenings by trying a new thing, Dinner Church. In the past we have always shared a soup supper and then traveled into the sanctuary to worship. This year we are building worship into the dinner portion of the evening. The theme this year is Spiritual Hunger.

I am hopeful to appeal to young families to join us at both congregations. The nature of the service is to be interactive where there will be preaching, scripture and praying, but we will also offer a chance for attendees to join in discussion on topics around the reading and the sermon. This method of worship has proven to be very popular, and congregations have found that more people attend these services. Please consider joining us.

Also, during Lent, I would once again encourage everyone not to give up anything for Lent. Instead of doing less of something, I would ask you to consider doing more of something during Lent. You can pray more, study more, worship more, or give more during Lent. Lent is a great time for reflecting and considering how God is calling us. This season is a time of repentance and hearing again the promises of God's forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Let us journey together once again to the Cross. Together we will find something new there, I promise. I am so proud to be your pastor.

Peace,
Pastor Bob
